Sustainability

How we are approaching sustainability

Trafalgar Marquees is committed to being a sustainable business. We are constantly looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint, increase recycling and ensuring as little as possible goes to landfill. But, as marquees are made of PVC and aluminium, we have to consistently mindful of what we do and how we do it.

A Certified B Corporation®

We’re massively excited to be joining a global community of businesses committed to positively impact all people, communities and the planet. It’s confirmation of what we’ve been working hard to achieve — using business as a force for good.

Certifying is only the start of our journey — we’re on a mission to continue improving our impact in order to create an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy. The B Corp community now spans 13 Global Partners & Market Builder regions, 89 countries, 161 industries, 400,000+ workers — and over 6,600 B Corps.

Here is what we are currently doing to be a sustainable business:

Vehicles

Our fleet vehicles are, on average, less than four years old. As each comes up for renewal it will be replaced with a hybrid or electric vehicle. The nature of our business means we do a lot of mileage, so we are doing everything we can to reduce the impact of the mileage.

The great thing about marquees is that they are delivered using small vehicles, particularly when compared to other ways of adding space. We only use bigger vehicles when absolutely necessary.

Single-use plastics

We are aiming to completely remove single-use plastics from the business. Every member of our team has an insulated water bottle to remove the need for buying bottles.

Recycling

We have a strict recycling process in the office, diverting as much of the waste that we produce from landfill as possible. Bins are clearly marked, and there are posters around the bins and office to help label what can and can’t be accepted.

Energy reduction

Low energy bulbs are used throughout the warehouse and yard, with a plan to install solar power to provide all electricity very soon. Combined with the fact that installing, and dismantling, marquees uses far less energy than alternatives, we are minimising the amount of energy we use.

We also use industrial portable battery packs whilst onsite, so that we can power our tools with clean energy without having to use a generator.

Reuse and repair

Whenever possible we repair, rather than replace, the component parts of our marquees, including the PVC sheets, the aluminium poles and flooring. Carpeting is reused whenever possible and often for alternative uses around the yard. Anything we can do to reduce what needs to go to landfill.

Green hosting

This website is powered by 100% renewable energy. The data centre is certified by SSE.

Increasing sustainability in the future

We are constantly looking for ways to minimise our impact on the environment. We aim to reduce our energy consumption, remove single-use items, and increase recycling.

We will continue to do so going forward…
