The Client
London South East Colleges is an award-winning further education college, and has eight campuses across the area. Education has a hugely positive impact on peoples’ lives and they are determined to make a difference to their local communities, through high quality teaching and learning.
The Challenge
We have helped LSEC Bromley in multiple ways:
- Social distancing space for students to gather safely
- Furniture hire for events in their sports hall
- A space for a vocational course
This final one – a bricklaying course – is simply not possible in a normal classroom. Not only do bricks weigh a lot, getting them in (via forklift) and out (after dismantling the construction) would be difficult and time-consuming.
The Solution
Trafalgar provided two marquees that were positioned behind the tech block, in a parking area that wasn’t extensively used.
The marquees were accessible through both ends, with minimum clearance in excess of 2.7 metres, allowing forklifts in and out with pallets of bricks, sand and cement. LED Lighting was installed so classes can still take place in the winter, or if the weather isn’t great. We also conduct monthly health and safety inspections to ensure everything is as it should be.
Other marquees and furniture have been provided to the Bromley college since 2020, particularly to help the college deal with the pandemic.
The Results
Their bricklaying students were able to practice their skills whatever the weather.
Students were able to gather to discuss their classes, and simply socialise, without getting wet but still following social guidance rules.
